The brain farts just keep continuing. As does the flirtation with unusual time signatures. In this case 5/4, I can sense this song will evolve into a rather long one, quite possibly up to 7 or 8 minutes. The riff is nothing extraordinary however the jaunty nature of the drums and heavily palm muted guitars will lend itself to creating hugely variable dynamics throughout the piece. I think I know exactly where this song is going, however it’s far too late in the evening to be recording it.

Brain Farts

Fuelled by copious amounts of Pepsi Max I wrote a song a few weeks back. The song is currently titled “98 one” not because I have a fascination with the number 981, or even that I like the local radio station i98 (who use 98.1mhz as their broadcast frequency). It IS however named after it’s time signature for the opening riff, which is in 9/8. To the non- musical people reading this, that means there are 9 quavers in a bar. If we were counting a bar of 4/4 we could count it as “one and two and three and four and” which works out to 8 quavers (a quaver or as it’s known in the US an 8th note, is half the length of a crotchet, which is 1 beat. A Little Bit of Green

2004 was the final year of my university degree. I was studying Sound Composition and Music Production at the University of Wollongong and under the tuteledge of Academy Award Nominated Dr. Tom Fitzgerald. The objective was to write a piece of music and create a music video for it.
