Hyenas, a band listed on their bio as “Post-Metal” hailing from Nuremberg, Germany. Deadweights, an album recorded in four days at Ghost City Recordings in Bavaria, Germany.
Listening to the album I’d say it’s a blend of the punk ethos and warts ‘n’ all recording ethos, screaming taken from the hardcore playbook and plenty of distortion. There isn’t much to the songs, they are driven by energy and are clearly a vehicle to get a live crowd as amped up as possible within 90 seconds.
The whole album comes in under 28 minutes, which should give a decent idea of the kinds of songs it contains.
Short album, short review.
My favourite track on the album is “Verminious”, it provides a bit of a breather in the middle of the album while remaining angry. While I’m no closer to knowing what Post-Metal is, Hyenas deliver a solid effort which should please fans of relatively short, high impact, high energy songs.
Favourite track: Verminious
